How to use the WebP to JPG tool

  1. Select the WebP images or drop them onto the box.
  2. They are converted to JPG at 90% quality, which looks the same as the original.
  3. Download each JPG, or all of them as a ZIP.

Why convert WebP to JPG?

JPG is the most widely supported image format there is. Converting WebP to JPG is the quickest way around messages like “file type not supported” when you:

  • Upload a picture to a job portal, marketplace, school system or government form that only accepts JPG/JPEG.
  • Open the image in older software, such as older versions of Photoshop, Word or Windows Photo Viewer.
  • Print at a shop or kiosk that only reads JPG.
  • Send the picture to someone whose phone or computer will not display WebP.

WebP vs JPG

WebP is newer and more efficient: at the same visual quality a WebP is usually 25–35% smaller. JPG has been around since 1992 and works literally everywhere. For storing images on a website, WebP is often the better choice. For sharing, uploading and printing, JPG is the safe choice.

Choosing JPG or PNG

  • Choose JPG for photos. It keeps files small and is accepted everywhere.
  • Choose PNG for logos, graphics with sharp edges, or anything with a transparent background.

After converting

If an upload form also has a size limit, run the JPG through Compress Image to 20KB and set the limit you need. If it needs particular dimensions, use Resize Image first.

Frequently asked questions

How do I convert WebP to JPG on Windows?

Open this page in any browser such as Chrome or Edge, drop your WebP files on the box, and download the JPGs. Nothing needs to be installed.

What happens to transparent areas?

JPG cannot store transparency, so transparent parts are filled with white. If you need to keep a transparent background, convert WebP to PNG instead.

Will the JPG look worse than the WebP?

At the default 90% quality the difference is not visible. The JPG file will usually be somewhat larger than the WebP because JPG compression is less efficient.

Why do websites give me WebP files instead of JPG?

Many websites serve WebP because it loads faster. When you save the image, you get the WebP version even if the original upload was a JPG.

Can I convert many WebP files at once?

Yes. Add up to 20 files at a time and download them together as a ZIP.

Is it safe?

Yes. The conversion runs in your browser and no file is uploaded anywhere.
