How to use the PNG to JPG tool
- Select the PNG files or drop them onto the box.
- They are converted to JPG at 90% quality. Any transparent areas become white.
- Check how much smaller each file got, then download it, or all files as a ZIP.
PNG vs JPG: which is right?
Both formats are universal, but they are built for different kinds of image.
| PNG | JPG | |
|---|---|---|
| Best for | Screenshots, logos, text, graphics | Photos and realistic images |
| Compression | Lossless (exact) | Lossy (tiny invisible losses) |
| Transparency | Yes | No |
| Size for a phone photo | 8–15 MB | 1–3 MB |
A photo saved as PNG is unnecessarily huge. Converting it to JPG is one of the simplest ways to save space.
Typical reasons people convert
- A form says “only JPG or JPEG accepted”.
- An email bounces because the attachments are too large.
- A website feels slow because its photos are PNG.
- An exported image from a design or screenshot tool is too big to share.
Tips
- If the result is still too big, use Compress Image and lower the quality, or Compress Image to 20KB for a strict limit.
- Want small files and transparency? Convert to WebP instead.
- Need the other direction? Use JPG to PNG.
Frequently asked questions
Why convert PNG to JPG?
For photos, JPG files are typically 70–90% smaller than PNG with no visible difference. That makes them faster to upload, email and load on websites, and many forms only accept JPG.
What happens to a transparent background?
JPG has no transparency, so transparent areas are filled with white. If you need to keep transparency but want a smaller file, convert to WebP instead.
Should I convert screenshots to JPG?
Usually not. Screenshots with text and flat colours often look worse as JPG, with blurry edges around letters, and may not get much smaller. PNG or WebP is better for them. JPG is ideal for photos.
Is JPG the same as JPEG?
Yes. They are the same format. The .jpeg extension is simply the longer version of .jpg.
Will I lose quality?
JPG uses lossy compression, but at 90% quality the change is invisible on photos. Keep your PNG if you might want to edit the image heavily later.
Are my files uploaded?
No. Everything happens inside your browser.
