How to use the JPG to PNG tool

  1. Select your JPG or JPEG files, or drop them onto the box.
  2. Each one is converted to a lossless PNG.
  3. Download the PNGs one by one or as a ZIP.

Why convert JPG to PNG?

JPG is great for sharing photos, but every time a JPG is edited and saved again it loses a little more detail. PNG is lossless, so it is the better format to work in when you:

  • Edit images repeatedly, for example in a design tool, and do not want quality to drop with every save.
  • Add text, arrows or graphics to a photo, since PNG keeps sharp edges crisp.
  • Meet a requirement: some apps, game engines, print services and upload forms ask specifically for PNG.
  • Use the image as a starting point for a logo, sticker or cut-out that will later get a transparent background.

What to expect

The PNG will look identical to your JPG and will be larger in file size. Think of it as a master copy: nothing more will be lost from here on.

Going the other way

If you need a small file for email or the web, convert back with PNG to JPG or, for the smallest files, Convert to WebP.

Frequently asked questions

Does converting JPG to PNG improve quality?

No. PNG keeps the image exactly as it is now, but it cannot restore detail that JPG compression already removed. The benefit is that further edits and saves will not lose any more quality.

Can I make the background transparent?

Converting alone does not remove the background; a JPG has no transparency, so the PNG will have the same solid background. You would need a background remover for that.

Why is my PNG much bigger than the JPG?

PNG stores every pixel exactly, while JPG is designed to be compact. A photo can be 3 to 10 times larger as PNG. That is expected.

When do I actually need PNG?

When a website, app or printer requires PNG; when you plan to edit the image many times; or when you will add text or graphics on top and want crisp edges.

Is it free and private?

Yes. There is no sign-up or limit, and the conversion runs entirely in your browser.
